At the Chair of Physical Geography/GIS (Prof. Dr. Volker Hochschild) is a job vacancy from the 1st of May 2011 for the duration of 3 years (projected for 6 years).
The position of a Scientist (PhD student) Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L (50 %) for the contribution within the BMBF-F&E programme *Tibet and Central Asia: Monsoon-Dynamics and Geoecosystems* is to be assigned (subject to the confirmation of the BMBF). The candidate works leading in the subproject *Variability and Trends of water cycle components in Benchmark-catchments of the Tibet-Plateau (WET)* in close cooperation with the research partners. The position comprises the organisation of the remote sensing data evaluation as well as the field campaigns.
Tasks:
* Radar remote sensing (TerraSAR-X, ENVISAT, ALOS),
* Multisensoral remote sensing data evaluations for the deri-vation of hydrological and biophysical parameters (soil moisture, LAI, evapotranspiration, etc.),
* Organisation of in-situ measurements in the field (surface roughness, soil moisture, etc.),
* Parameterisation of hydrological models for the compilation of the water balance of endorheic lake ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau.
Requirements:
* Degree (Master, Diploma) in Physical Geography with re-mote sensing, geoinformatics or similar subjects as majors,
* Profound knowledge of multifrequent and multipolarimetric microwave evaluations as well as image processing with popular software,
* Preparedness for field work on the Tibetan Plateau,
* Excellent knowledge of English language,
* Communicative skills and willingness for teamwork,
* Personal PhD qualification desired.
