Remote Sensing Researcher
We invite applications for a permanent research position in remote sensing to join a group of young international scientists at CEAZA, Center of Advanced Research in Arid Zones, La Serena, Chile.
Job description
Remote sensing expert with specific interest in spatio-temporal analysis and validation of multi-source satellite time series data to study/explain the impact of climate oscillations on semiarid Northern-Central Chile. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects that focus on the use of remote sensing to monitor cryospheric processes and their impact on hydrological and biological variability, but also will be able to develop his/her own research on the use of remote sensing observations to study/explain other biophysical and geophysical processes (e.g., hydrological cycle, snow distribution, glacier variability, biologic productivity, biodiversity, agricultural/aquicultural yield, oceanografic processes, atmospheric variability, etc.) in semiarid Northern-Central Chile. He/She will work in close collaboration with researchers in glaciology, hydrology and climatology to contribute to the development of a regional water observatory, but may also develop innovative research projects with biologists, ecologists, oceanographers or agricultural scientists.
Requirements
- a PhD in remote sensing or a related discipline and preferentially have some post-doc experience
- interest to work in multi-disciplinary research
- experience in GIS and advanced processing of multi-source satellite imagery in a ENVI-IDL or Matlab environment
- appropriate skills in the handling of large data sets and satellite database management
- the ability to publish results in mainstream scientific journals
- communication skills in English scientific writing/publishing and presentation
- knowledge of Spanish language is an asset and, will be required/ stimulated once in charge

CEAZA
CEAZA (Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Zonas ?ridas) is a regional research center, established in 2003 dedicated to studying the impact of climatic change and oscillations (e.g. ENSO) upon the hydrological cycle and the biological productivity in the arid zones of Northern-Central Chile. The successful applicant will work as part of the Terrestrial Biology and Hydrology and Modeling group at CEAZA. More information about CEAZA and ongoing projects can be found at http://www.ceaza.cl.
