The Georges Lemaître Centre for Earth and Climate Research (TECLIM;
www.uclouvain.be/teclim) / Earth and Life Institute of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) is seeking for a postdoctoral fellow in support of the writing of Chapter 12 (Long-term climate change: Projections, commitments and irreversibility) of the IPCC Working Group 1 (WG1) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5).
Under the general guidance of Prof. Thierry Fichefet, who is one of the Lead Authors of IPCC WG1 AR5 Chapter 12, the postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the :
* review and archiving of the relevant scientific literature;
* analysis (with publication in peer-reviewed journals) of CMIP5 (http://cmip-pcmdi.llnl.gov/cmip5/) climate projections, with focus on sea ice and high-latitude climate;
* running and analysis (with publication in peer-reviewed journals) of long-term climate projections with the Earth system model of intermediate complexity LOVECLIM (http://www.astr.ucl.ac.be/modx/index.php?id=81);
* design of scientific graphs;
* communication with the chapter authors;
* documentation of the draft modifications along the writing and review process.
Applicants should have:
* a PhD degree in the field of climate modelling;
* a training and ability to manipulate software tools for (i) managing bibliographies, (ii) statistical analyses and (iii) graphical representation of observational datasets and climate model outputs;
* an excellent English level (both oral and written);
* a strong disposition to communicate with a group of peers.
The position is offered for about 27 months. The grant (incl. full social security) will be commensurate with experience according to the UCL rates.
