Summer 2011 Applications
Applications are now open for undergraduates and graduate students interested in participating in the Juneau Icefield summer Glacier and Earth Systems Science Field Research Program beginning in Juneau, Alaska June 23, 2011. Students begin in Alaska and traverse Juneau Icefield glaciers finishing their field course in the Atlin Lake region, British Columbia –Yukon, August 18, 2011. The program emphasizes field research in glacier and climate science and introduces field relationships between glaciohydrology, glacierized landscapes, and alpine ecology using the tools of satellite remote sensing, GPS-glacier surveying, meterology and geophysics. Students, faculty, and staff utilize nunatak field camps located across the icefield. Students also develop skills in extreme environment expeditionary science work. Upper division Environmental Science academic credit (3-9) for the 8-week program is available through the University Alaska Southeast. Program cost is $4800 not including airfare.
