PhD position at WSL institute for snow and avalanche research SLF Davos (Switzerland)
The WSL institute for snow and avalanche research is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 500 people, 130 of them in Davos, work on topics related to the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on an integrated approach to handling natural hazards. The Research Unit Snow and Permafrost studies the physical properties of snow and permafrost, exchange processes between the snow surface and the atmosphere, and the formation of snow avalanches. For a project about the impact of climate change on snow resources we are looking for a Ph.D. Student: Analysis and modeling of the past and future snow cover
You will analyze the variability and extremes of the Alpine snow cover during the last 100 years and compare these results with model runs. The development of the snow cover will be simulated with the help of input from regional climate models and the physical snow model SNOWPACK. The goal is to increase our knowledge about the past and future snow cover at different elevations and in various climate regions of Switzerland.
