The Laboratoire de Glaciologie & Géophysique de l'Environnement (LGGE) is looking for applicants for a research position (PhD) starting January 1st, 2011, within the Marie-Curie training network GREENCYCLES-II (http://www.greencycles.org), based in Grenoble, France, on the focus:
T5.2 Quantifying carbon-climate-ocean feedbacks using EMICs and ice core data
The early-stage researcher ('ESR', Ph.D candidate) will investigate feedbacks between climate and carbon cycle at the centennial-millennial timescales using carbon-climate models. The project will focus on glacial-interglacial transitions to better understand how orbital forcing is amplified by carbon cycle processes. These processes will be modelled, and constrained with carbon isotopes measurements (done at LGGE). This modelling work will be carried out at Grenoble as well as at Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat & de l'Environnement (LSCE, Saclay, France, http://www.lsce.ipsl.fr). The candidate is expected to have some backgrounds in climate processes. A modelling experience is an advantage.
The position is expected to start on January 1st, 2011 and run until December 31st, 2013 (36 months). Applications should arrive before November 1st, 2010, but will be considered until the position is filled. To be eligible, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in France for more than 12 months in the preceding 3 years (at the start of the fellowship). French nationals are only eligible if they have been active in research in a non-associated third country for at least three of the last four years. Early-stage researchers must be in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers, including the period of research training, starting at the qualification date. A fellowship covers a net salary of approximately 25,000 euros/year plus allowance for mobility/travels.
Marie-Curie network (http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions) aims at providing an intensive and full research training: early-stage researchers are expected to complete a PhD, to partly work in another laboratory affiliated to the program, and to actively participate in network workshops and training events.
Candidates should send a complete CV, a statement of interest, copies of high-school and academic certificates, names of two referees and a completed 'Eligibility Form' (http://www.greencycles.org/vacancies/) to Dr. Gilles Delaygue, preferably by e-mail (
