The Board of Trustees of Ilisagvik College, Alaska’s only tribal college, invites applications and nominations for the position of President. Ilisagvik College is a small, locally controlled, public, institution, serving a very rural region of Alaska. It offers an exciting opportunity to work in a multicultural environment where a creative, dynamic individual can make a great difference. With 13 full time faculty (and many adjunct faculty), the college serves about 500 certificate, degree and workforce development students each semester, and offers programs in Barrow and by distance delivery to the villages of the North Slope Borough.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
· An ability to maintain strong relationships with North Slope borough organizations and to work in a challenging political environment. Knowledge of Alaska and Iñupiat culture helpful.
· An ability to interpret the College to the community and meet the needs of the populace.
· Significant administrative experience in the non-profit sector, including human and financial management, problem solving and conflict management.
· Demonstrated collaborative management, and knowledge of community college educational programs and practices.
· Leadership ability to inspire and merit the respect of staff and community. Excellent communication and team building skills. Fosters entrepreneurial, "can do" attitudes.
· A cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different cultures.
· Ability to conduct successful fundraising, balance program needs and develop a vision for the future.
The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree from an accredited college or university, have prior community college experience, and experience working in a rural, isolated environment. Prior background in native American higher education and a strong student orientation are additional desirable traits. Candidates who may meet most but not all of the qualifications but have equally strong alternative credentials are invited to apply and will be considered.
