Description:
The Max Planck Society offers gifted young researchers the possibility of independent scientific work through its Max Planck Research Groups. Group leaders receive their own secure budget to run their research program. In this particular case, the new group will be established in cooperation with the University of Oldenburg. The position forms part of the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen and will be established at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM), University of Oldenburg, to further promote collaborative research between both institutes. The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and ICBM perform basic marine research, with common interests in chemical and microbiological processes. The position of the Max Planck Research Group leader will be available for a period of up to nine years, including a main funding period of five years and, upon successful evaluation, two extensions of two years each. The nineyear period will be considered as tenure track for a full professor position at the University of Oldenburg (ICBM). The cumulative amount of funding is competitive with world-wide highest-class international start-up packages on the associate professor level, and includes funding for scientific and technical personnel. Candidates should demonstrate a record of successful research in any of the chemical disciplines of the marine sciences. Research should aim at a causal understanding of the chemical composition of marine systems based on reactions catalyzed by microorganisms. Candidates are also expected to teach courses in marine sciences curricula at the University of Oldenburg. A symposium will be held on October 5, 2010 at the University of Oldenburg to identify the successful candidate and the topic of research. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society aims to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and urges them to apply. Please send your application including curriculum vitae, list of publications and a concise description of research plans and perspectives as a single pdf file before July 22, 2010 to
