Scientist (Physicist, Meteorologist, Oceanographer, Mathematician or related fields of expertise)
Division: Climate Sciences

The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research is inviting applications for the position of a scientist (Physicist, Meteorologist, Oceanographer, Mathematician or related fields of expertise) who will work in the Climate Sciences Department on the theme "Earth system modelling and sea level", in the research area climate modelling, numerical studies in the system atmosphere-ocean-ice-solid earth, especially inland ice dynamics and sea level, simulations of climate transitions on decadal and longer time scales. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The position is established in REKLIM (Helmholtz-Verbund Regionale Klimaänderungen), which concentrates the competences of eight Helmholtz centres in the field of climate change. Core theme of the studies will be computer-based analyses of interactions between atmosphere, ice, ocean and land, particularly in order to assess the expected loss of continental ice masses and their impact on the sea level.

Requirements: We seek a scientist with a PhD and experience in scientific work, documented by very good publications, especially in climate dynamics. Experience in using numerical models and in analysing techniques. Knowledge on the role of atmospheric and oceanic circulation as well as on inland ice in connection with climate variations is desirable. The candidate should show an interest in other research areas, especially those of the REKLIM network.
