Cryospheric Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory
Postdoctoral Research Position Available in remote sensing of snow at the Cryospheric Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory - NYC - USA
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
The City College of New York, CUNY, New York, USA
The Cryospheric Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory in New York City (NY, USA) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in the field of microwave remote sensing of snow.
The successful candidate will work on a project funded by NASA to develop, improve and refine the retrieval of snow parameters (e.g., snow depth and snow water equivalent) from microwave remote sensing data.
The project includes the assessment and refinement of the current NASA AMSR-E SWE operational algorithm, the development of a combined active/passive retrieval approach and the analysis of fieldwork data. Involvement in fieldwork is anticipated. The postdoctoral research position involves also the analysis of land surface models outputs or re-analysis data in conjunction with satellite observations. Collaboration with scientists at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is anticipated and expected.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and expertise in managing satellites data sets and programming in Matlab and/or IDL. Knowledge of snow physical processes is an advantage. The position runs for one year, with a possible extension of additional years, pending funding availability. The position will be open until filled.
To apply, please submit a CV, letter of interest, a list of publications and (preferred but not required) the list of at least two referees to:
