The Cryospheric Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, at the City College of New York is seeking 1 PhD student for supporting a 3-year NSF funded project concerning the improvement of estimates of surface mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet.
The project focuses on implementing a data assimilation approach to develop a synergistic modeling/observations framework to reduce uncertainties of mapping, quantifying and monitoring the Greenland ice sheet surface processes for improving estimates of surface mass balance and reducing relative uncertainties.
We are seeking one PhD student with, but not necessarily, experience in cryosphere research. A background in
Physics, Mathematics, Programming or a related subject is required. Prior knowledge of ice sheet processes, surface mass balance and remote sensing is of advantage.
The position is initially offered for three years, starting as soon as possible.
Payment will be in accordance with the City University of New York PhD standards.
The selection process will start on September 10, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.
The Cryospheric Processes and Remote Sensing Laboratory seeks to increase the number of female scientists and individuals belonging to groups historically under-represented in science and encourages them to apply.
If interested, please submit :
1) a letter of interest,
2) curriculum vitae,
3) a summary of research activities and achievements,
4) the names and contact information of two references
5) recommendation letters (optional)
6) copies of scientific degrees (optional but desired)
