A one and a half year postdoc position is available at the Department of Marine Geology and Glaciology at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), starting 1 October 2009 or shortly after.
Job description
Uncertainties in predicting future sea level are associated with dynamical changes in the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. A key aspect of these uncertainties is the role of outlet glaciers and their ice shelves: how they might respond to climate change, and the effect this could have on the ice sheets. The purpose of the job is to work with models in order to make projections of rapid changes in ice sheets. The focus will be on several outlet glaciers of the Greenland ice sheet, to investigate the mechanisms that control their recent rapid thinning and acceleration, and to predict their future behavior in response to climate warming.
Qualifications
The applicant must possess considerable research skills in ice-dynamic modeling at the highest international level. It is expected that the applicant has a well-developed international network within the field of ice-dynamic modeling. The applicant should have a strong publication record and add expertise to the glaciology group at GEUS. Applicants must master the English language. Non-Danish speaking applicants must be prepared to learn Danish at a suitable working level within the first twelve months after appointment.
Department of Marine Geology and Glaciology
Our department consists of a strong mix of researchers and advisors within glaciology, marine geology, climate change, paleoclimatology and environmental geology. See also

Salary and employment conditions
Terms of payment and appointment will be according to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The appointment will be on the basis of scientific merit. The Ministry of Environment is an Equal Opportunity Employer and thus both women and men are encouraged to apply.

The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, GEUS, is a research and advisory institute in the Danish Ministry of the Environment. GEUS' overall mission is to provide, to use, and to disseminate knowledge of geological materials, processes and relations that is important for the use and protection of geological resources in Denmark and Greenland. The survey also operates in the private sector. See
