The Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø, Norway, invites applications for a permanent position as a specialist in satellite remote sensing.

Work content
To further our efforts in developing remote sensing as a tool for polar research and environmental monitoring, we are looking for an analyst and project manager with core competence in remote sensing and image analysis. The analyst will be working with projects covering oceanography and sea ice, glacier mass balance and radiation balance, and marine ecosystem mapping. In most cases, applications of SAR data will be involved.
The main tasks will be the development and operation of satellite-based applications for environmental monitoring, image analysis, data acquisition and management, and project and applications development. The successful applicant will also be liaising with national and international remote sensing programmes.
Qualifications
The applicant should hold a Masters Degree, PhD or equivalent qualification, and have a relevant scientific background, preferably in geophysics. Sound knowledge of image analysis, SAR data and GIS is required, as is experience in project management. Some experience from work in the Polar Regions is an advantage. Teamwork and good presentation skills are important.
The analyst will join an inspiring, international working environment at our main office in Tromsø. Some fieldwork will be required.
Salary
The salary will commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate, according to the Norwegian State salary code 1087, scale 51 – 60 (NOK 394.400 – 463.000) or 1181, scale 56 – 65 (NOK 431.000 – 509.000) depending on qualifications.
