We seek to fill a position at the Postdoctoral Researcher level (or higher, depending on experience of the candidate) to work as part of the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) team at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), the University of California San Diego (UCSD),
http://scripps.ucsd.edu/. The chosen candidate could work on one of several ICESat-related projects on ice sheets depending on their previous experience and interest, including: Antarctic subglacial lakes and their effect on ice dynamics; Antarctic ice shelf grounding zones; Antarctic ice shelf stability; and Greenland supraglacial lakes. Previous experience in satellite radar and/or laser altimetry is desirable. Knowledge of IDL and/or Matlab and a solid understanding of GPS and geodesy would be a bonus.
Salary will be determined by the University commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California pay scale, plus benefits. The successful candidate is expected to start by November 1st 2009, although this is negotiable. The position is for one year, with renewal for a second year by mutual agreement.
