Postdoctoral position in ice sheet ice stream interaction dynamics
03-Mar-2009
STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY hereby announces a Postdoctoral Position in Ice sheet - ice stream interaction dynamics (ref.no. 619-0492-09) at the Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University.

Deadline for application: 14th of April 2009.

The Bert Bolin Centre for Climate Research (BBCC) at Stockholm University is an externally funded 10-year research program bringing together the climate research expertise in four departments (INK, IGG, MISU and ITM). The role of the BBCC is to conduct fundamental research on critical processes in the climate system. The research program embraces natural climate evolution and variability, as well as changes imposed by man´s ever-increasing impact on the climate systems through emission of greenhouse gases and aerosols, and changes in land-use, vegetation and hydrology. Our challenge and aim is to provide new knowledge about climate-influencing processes, over a range of time-scales and subsystems. We are now recruiting a postdoctoral scientist for two years to the BBCC's multidisciplinary research environment within the topic ice sheet - ice stream interaction dynamics.

The topic of the post-doc project is integrative numerical simulation of dynamically coupled paleo-glacial systems for the purpose of modeling ice sheet - ice stream interaction dynamics. The modeling will target the paleo-glaciological configuration of the Arctic Ocean region; specifically the Canadian Arctic Archipelago's ice stream network and their role for feeding Arctic Ocean ice shelves that recent geophysical mapping revealed existed during some of the past glacial periods. In addition to the development and implementation of a higher order numerical ice sheet model focusing on ice sheet - ice stream interaction dynamics, its application in support of paleo-glaciological reconstructions available is of fundamental importance.

The position is placed at the Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology (INK) at Stockholm University and involves close cooperation with quaternary scientists from INK and marine geophysicists from Department of Geology and Geochemistry (IGG). The successful applicant should have a PhD, not older than three years before the deadline for applications, in a discipline related to the research topic (e.g. physics, applied mathematics, atmospheric sciences, oceanic
sciences, geosciences). Experience in numerical modeling, programming and continuum mechanics is essential; familiarity with ice dynamics is advantageous.

Envisioned starting date is June 1st, 2009, although this can be negotiated.

The application, in English, should include and be organized as follows:
- Formal application
- CV (personal details, degrees, education and previous employment, leaves of absence, services to the community)
- Copies of degree certificates
- List of publications, with peer-reviewed articles listed separately
- A short account of the most important results from previous research and why these are considered important
- List of talks held at conferences (since 2004)
- Other scientific expertise

The individual documents of the application should be collected into one pdf document, with the name of the applicant and the Reference number 619-0492-09 in the document name (Ref.no-name.pdf). The application should be send as an attachment by email with ”Post Doc Position Ref No 619-0492-09” as subject to: Este endereço de e-mail está protegido contra spam bots, pelo que o JavaScript terá de estar activado para que possa visualizar o endereço de e-mail or by regular mail to:
