Funding for one Ph.D. student is available at the Center for Geophysical Investigation of the Shallow Subsurface (CGISS), Geosciences Department, Boise State University, to start Fall 2009. This student will study spatial variability in the seasonal snowpack using state-of-the-art snow measurement techniques, and will work on quantifying its effect on remote sensing, snow hydrology, and snow avalanches.
The research will involve fieldwork in Alaska, Colorado, and Idaho.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Math, Physics, Geophysics, or Engineering, as the work will be highly quantitative. Fluency in a programming language desired, experience with data analysis a plus. Proficiency in some form of motor-less backcountry travel is required, as the
project involves fieldwork at remote sites in the winter and spring.
