Department of Geosciences
University of Oslo, Norway
We invite applications for a Ph.D. research fellowship on modelling the hydrology of glacierized catchments under changing climate conditions. The candidate will develop and implement a glacier routine into a distributed hydrological model to investigate the effects of climatically driven glacier change on meltwater runoff. The model performance will be tested against available data, acquisition of complementary data during the project will be possible.
The employment in a 4-years position involves a teaching responsibility equivalent to 25% working time.
The successful candidate has a strong background and interest in modelling, preferentially in hydrology and /or glaciology. Experience in programming, low level (e.g. Fortran, C++) and high level (e.g. MATLAB, Python or similar) is required. Knowledge of parameter optimization methods will be a benefit. Experience in conducting fieldwork is an asset.
Research fellowship applicants must hold a Master degree (or an equivalent level of education) in one of the Geosciences, Physics or a related discipline relevant for the described project. Applicants who will finish their master study within October 2008 can apply given that a date is set for their final exam.
Applications should be submitted following the guidelines given here:
