"Experiments on 2D and 3D ice polycrystals to measure the development of local strain heterogeneities during transient creep. Comparison with full-field modelling approaches."
The student should have a strong background in material science and mechanic of material. He will adapt the experimental device to couple the classical creep compression test to the optical device for displacement measurements by digital image correlations. In parallel he will perform post-mortem measurements of local misorientations at the crystal scale using both the automatic fabric analyser available in LGGE, and hard X-rays experiments. He will then use the available data for further comparisons with full-field modeling. The PhD student will be mainly located in LGGE for the experimental part, but will have to spent part of his time in LPMTM for the modeling comparison and development.
We are looking for a candidate for this PHD position starting as soon as possible
